Great Success!

So the weather didn't cooperate for the bean bags part of my first Bean Bags and Rhubarb event this summer, but the rhubarb made up for it. I had a 9 x 13 pan of rhubarb crisp with oat flour instead of wheat flour for an allergic guest, a strawberry-rhubarb custard pie, and a brand new one, Party Rhubarb Pie. It is from my Farm Journal's Complete Pie Cookbook. My only mistake with it was putting it in an 8" dish instead of a 9" dish. This meant that when I poured the cream cheese-sugar-eggs mixture on top of the rhubarb it flowed over. But I recovered.

I enjoyed the blend of guests tonight: Hans, Lindsay, Tiffany, Karen, Jim, and Angela. The first three are from work, the next two aren't, and Angela is from forever.

New Weekend New Filler

Imagine a world in which generations of human beings come to believe that certain films were made by God or that specific software was coded by him. Imagine a future in which millions of our descendants murder each other over rival interpretations of Star Wars or Windows 98. Could anything --anything -- be more ridiculous? And yet, this would be no more ridiculous than the world we are living in. -Sam Harris, author (1967- )

My latest coining is a co-opting of organized to mean a piece of music played on a Wurlitzer.

Filler for the Weekend

Earlier this week I was trying to say "battered and bruised" and instead said "bruittered." I really like it. So if you could start using it to talk about a vanquished opponent, I would appreciate it. There is even a bit of the lingering over wounds or brooding, so it has that going for it, which is nice.

I'm making my first strawberry-rhubarb pie this weekend.

I'm going to bed now.

Pretty Amazing Grace -- Eventually

Neil Diamond has a new album that drops today. The first single off of it is titled "Pretty Amazing Grace." (the amazon site has a video of the song apparently.)

Anne Lamott was on The Colbert Report pimping her latest book Grace Eventually.

Grace is the new Hope.

I ran my half-marathon in 1:53:29, which I'm very happy with. It helps to set your expectations low, and I reached them.

Dogs I met on my run Sunday:

Roy, old black lab
Vega, Boxer Staffordshire mix
Lily, golden lab
Cooper, Golden Retriever

I saw that appearance.

I wasn't impressed. She said nothing interesting or new. And she looked confused by his humor.

I didn't care for Traveling Mercies either. It was a bunch of tired catchphrases from tired sermons.

Yeah, I wasn't impressed either. Though it is tricky to play to his schtick, it is much better than trying to play it straight.

I read Traveling Mercies with Buffy in a clinical environment, so I can't provide proper perspective on that.

Congrats on your run! Someday I would like to run a sub-four marathon. I don't know when that will be.

Thanks Ceri, I've decided if I can knock off a 1:30ish half I'll think about doing the full.
