Some Names and A Reason I Gave to Smile

Aridorkis Maldonado

Cwilla Kincaid

Dientje Jeltema

The juvenile side of me likes Aridorkis, the Welsh side--Cwilla, and the Baltic side Dientje.

In my abcedarian personal profile, for R-reasons to smile, I put "private observations of irony." Now I share one of those.

The Engel Hall men's restroom on the first floor is second only to the Jorgensen Hall men's restroom in my ranking of men's restrooms on the Union College Campus.

The Engel Hall restroom has a great sink and a couple great urinals. The other night after Eric Robison's senior guitar recital, I was there and found Renown at the bottom of each of those urinals. The little red strainer mats proudly said Renown in white letters. I thought this was a funny place to find renown, but the L-rd keeps us humble.

"In the Marmalade Forest . . .

between the Make-Believe Trees in a cottage cheese cottage lives Albi (Albi), Albi, Albi, Albi the Racist Dragon.

Part Six:

So all the angry villagers chased Albi into a very cold, very scary cave, and it was so cold and scary in there that Albi began to cry, dragon tears (which as we all know turn into jelly beans). Anyway, at that moment he felt a tiny little hand rest upon his tail, and he turned around, and who should it be but the badly burnt Albanian boy from the day before.

"What are you doing here? I thought I killed you," grumbled Albi, quite racistly.

"No Albi, you did not kill me. However you left me very severely disfigured and scarred," laughed the boy. "Why are you crying?"

"I'm crying because all of the villagers chased me into this horrible cave. I think it's because I'm so racist."

"No Albi, it isn't because of your racism that they chased you here. They chased me here too when I became disfigured. It's because they don't like you and I because we're different to them."

And SUDDENLY Albi wasn't racist anymore.

So they sat in their cave and ate bubble gum pie. Yum!

Albi the Racist (well, not anymore) Dragon."

This is from a musical comedy group from New Zealand called Flight of the Conchords. One member is now doing commercials for Outback Steakhouse.

Believe me, he has memorized this and recites it at the slightest hint of provocation.

The problem with being sure that God is on your side is that you can't change your mind, because God sure isn't going to change His.
-Roger Ebert, film-critic (1942- )

Every evening at work I check with Janet in accounting to make sure the credit cards match the invoices. I told her I was going to the Racquet Club for the first time in a long time. She said she thought I went there religiously. I said that's the problem; I go there about as often as I go to church. Hee He Hee

Stand-Up, Stand-Up, for Jesus?

I recently saw some stand-up comics on Comedy Central. One comedian that I've seen before and enjoyed and reminds me of Ceri is Maria Bamford. A classic joke from her is "My mother thinks that I'm afraid of success. And I think she's right because fulfilling my potential would really cut into my sittin' around time." The second one I wanted to share with you happen'd to be another girl Natasha Leggero. The link is to a lead in to my favorite joke from her. Her friend thinks she is fat because karma is getting her for making fun of fat kids in high school. "But we didn't turn Jewish."

I think I'm going to take a comedienne reminding you of me as a compliment...

Thanks!
